Cyrus Engerer spent the past five years working to safeguard Malta’s interests in the European Union’s main institutions: the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission.
He was chosen by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to be his Personal Representative in the European Union and Chief of Government’s Relations with the European Parliament at a crucial time for Malta. The run-up to and the actual Presidency of the Council of the European Union was a milestone in Malta’s history that will be remembered and studied for decades to come.
It was during this same time that Malta’s opposition launched the most vociferous attack on Malta across Europe. Therefore, apart from Presiding the Council’s General Affairs Council, being Chief Council Negotiator in discussions on the Future of Europe between Council, Commission and Parliament, and assisting the Prime Minister in European Council meetings; Cyrus was asked by the Prime Minister to lead Ministerial delegations to meet with each and every Member of the European Parliament and defend Malta’s reputation.
The experience achieved within each institution was described by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat as invaluable, which led him to ask Cyrus Engerer to contest the 2019 European Parliament elections.
Cyrus Engerer is graduated in European Politics both at the Univeristy of Malta and the College of Europe in Belgium. He is 37 years old and is partnered to Randolph De Battista, Partit Laburista’s CEO.

As all other Ministers can attest, Cyrus Engerer was our point of reference for all work relating to the European Parliament during Malta’s Presidency. He not only introduced us to key MEPs & relevant Committees, but worked tirelessly against PN’s attacks on MaltaChris FearneDeputy Prime Minister
